Becoming a Lover of Man, Emily Wang

Growing up in California and spending most of my adolescent life under the influence of TV, movies, and fashion magazines, naturally I ended up being superficial, opportunistic, and self-centered. Being in the Full-Time Training in Anaheim under the ministry of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee has really taught me that if I want to be a follower of Jesus, I need to have God's loving heart for man! This is a self-sacrificing heart, a lowly and humble heart full of love. This love transcends familial circles and immediate friends and encompasses everyone I meet, even people I don't know...even people who are not nice to me (Colossians 3:12-15)!

For example, one aspect of the Training is to visit nearby college campuses to spread the gospel and care for young Christian students to help them progress in their faith. However, when approaching people on campus, the reactions I receive are more often rejections than appreciation! It's easy to become discouraged and think that perhaps my efforts would be more appreciated elsewhere. But the Lord Jesus died on behalf of sinners, even on behalf of those who crucified Him (1 John 4:9-10). I am learning to take this dear One as my inward model (1 Peter 2:21). His life is within me, and even though I often lose heart or become bitter, His life within is always capable of more forgiveness, more compassion, and more love.

The goal of loving man isn't just so that I can boast of what a nice person I am, but so that the loving heart of God can be manifested. So many people don't know the Lord and are tired of hearing of Him because they think He is cruel, demanding, and seeks to deprive man of happiness. Although God is righteous, His reaching of man is in the realm of divine love and indescribable human compassion (1 John 4:9-10). Today, however, He needs us to reach man for Him! How else will people know that God is love unless some go out and represent Him as such (2 Corinthians 5:20)?

Thank you, Lord, for such an opportunity to be trained not only in the deep truths of the Bible, but to share these riches with all men! Thank you for training me to be a lover of man as You are.
